Rita Reik

Rita Reik is Chief Medical Officer for One Blood. In that role Dr. Reik oversees OneBlood’s team of board-certified Transfusion Medicine physicians, and the operational areas of Therapeutic Apheresis, Education and Research. 

Dr. Reik also serves as Chief Medical Officer for America’s Blood Centers, the national association which represents close to 50 independent US blood centers, which collect  60% of the nation’s blood supply.

Rita Reik

She is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, and Forensic Pathology.  Dr. Reik’s past experience includes serving as Senior Medical Officer for the American Red Cross Biomedical Services at its National Headquarters in Washington, DC.   She also held other Red Cross posts including Director of National Operations for the Center for Cell Therapy, and Chief Medical Officer of the Pacific Northwest Blood Services region.  In addition, Dr. Reik served as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Memorial Regional Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale Florida and was Director of Transfusion Medicine Services.

Dr. Reik is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She received her post-graduate training at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

She is a regional Principal Investigator for the NIH/NHLBI Transfusion-Transmissible Infectious Monitoring (REDS-III).  She served on the ABC Interdisciplinary Task Force for Zika virus, and currently serves on the HHS Advisory Committee for Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability sub-committee focusing on disaster preparedness and the blood supply.  She is a member of the national Microsoft Research Committee evaluating the use of COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma in treatment and prevention of COVID-19.
